Something to Admire

The body of man, a standard

of virility for centuries

whether depicted on canvas

or chiseled with great ability

has always impressed with
shoulders, chests,
abdominal muscles bulging

in smooth, rippled marbled glory

always telling a story of
mythological, iconic grandeur,
standing erect, hard
as the tool

that shaped them and
I’m sure King David
would be proud, perhaps
even laugh aloud to know

women still love him but
I think maybe Michelangelo
cut things a little short,
is all I’m saying.

This is incredible, Mike. Starts with a very serious note and ends so surprisingly on that 'cut things a little short' note. I simply admire your word power.

Hmph! I am hardly impressed by such statues, I must say . Don't get me wrong, the craftmanship is not the problem. It's the figures themselves that are not so high and mighty . *cough**cough* However... Back onto the real subject....

You've woven a beautiful story here, Michael . Eloquently worded, beautifully put. Good job, as always.

I love your twist at the end, you totally caught me by surprise. Very well expressed and in such a light hearted way to balance the titillating beginning. Best wishes in the contest.
