Dollar Daves

Missing image
Dollar Daves

A rich man once they say

Prison songs he sang.

Home, pride, peace.

farmed the back hills

Rutherford county.

Black lab by his side.

Pony and I flew after school

two miles dirt road, wooden bridges

covered creeks flying,

warm wood fire,

sassafras tea, rhubarb pie.

listened all about my school day.

helped with math sent me on my way.

I loved Dollar Daves.

Author notes

So wild so young, I knew where the kind people were who really cared about me. He made sure I knew my Multiplication tables!! He kept shoes on my pony I picked green beans for him in the summer. Lots of people like that growing up.

~ This is an interesting piece ~ you have unique style ~ in writing ~ Your style reminds me of an old time poet ~ most folks wouldn't know ~ He only wrote a short number of books ~ published in the 1800's ~

I'd luv to read more of your work ~ Down the road ~ this write has the simple pleasure ~ of a sunday day in the south ~ Nice job overall ~

Thanks so much for entering the "Set the bar" contest ~ I really appreciate you sharing your work with me ~ best of luck to you.

This sounds like a lovely memory. I like the simplicity of your style and how you put all those small memory images in it, it feels like looking at a photo album.
As for the experiment part of my contest, I don't think you were a subject, were you?
Thanks a lot for your entry
