There is a silver butterfly
Around a chain on my neck
Warm July afternoon
Out on the porch
Your mother watches a butterfly land
Gracefully touching her knee
As he is running to the cabin
Blood on his shirt
Yelling at her
You have been hit
She bends over
Breathes into your body
Pressing down on your chest
But you are already gone
Your soul fluttering by
Leaving me only a silver butterfly
Author notes
This is for my cousin Stephen who got into a motorcycle accident when he was 16. He gave the best hugs!

First I am truly sorry for your loss. I could not imagine being in that situation. My heart goes out to you. Now the poem was beautiful. I felt each and every word. It nearly brought me to tears, and I am just about out of them from my recent loss. I congratulate you on the gold, it is well deserved! ~Nikki

Very powerful. Very touching. What an awesome tribute to Stephen. It brings tears to my eyes, knowing that you lost a best hugger. What an incredible loss that had to have been for you, seeing as how you still remember those hugs.
