Sweet Temptation

Come into the darkness of the rabbit hole;
who knows what wonders lay beyond?
Satisfy your curiousity,
follow the white rabbit -
quench your thirst for knowledge.

Quench your thirst for knowledge,
for the serpent hisses deceitful lies -
wisdom gained by the forbidden fruit,
ruby red sin held in hand -
bite the apple of sweet temptation.

Bite the apple of sweet temptation -
its poison flesh is inviting indeed -
given behind the mask of a friendly face,
convincing words are told to naive ears -
foolishness is repaid with eternal sleep.

Foolishness is repaid with eternal sleep,
so says the wicked faery -
one prick upon a spinning wheel
shall stain the shining, silver needle
with a monarch's blood forevermore.

Author notes

This is a poem of allusions. You can obviously see the repeatition used, and this blends all of the allusions together. The first stanza refers to Alice In Wonderland, the second refers to Genesis, the third refers to Snow White, and the last stanza refers to The Sleeping Beauty.

I wanted to try something a bit different with this, so I hope you like it.
