Those chemicals are mixing in a tube of grace;
I've seen that kind of magic flash across your face;
You jump into the arms of an imagined grace
and then disappear.
I never had the pleasure of ingesting sin;
If you're a Voodoo doll, babe I have the pin;
So suck it up some more 'cause it's where I've been
That will kill you.
Now baby I imagine you are hot as hell,
Still standing in the rain has made it hard to tell;
Together with the weather this ain't going well:
I'm wasted.
Just buckle up your saddle and prepare to ride;
I'm waxing up my surfboard for the rising tide;
Forget about the future 'cause it's time to hide:
I'm coming.
You're Scarlet melting in the hands
of young Clarke Gabel;
We're moaning like the tenants
of the Tower of Babel;
The Alchemist is me, and baby,
You're the Periodic Table.
You're panting like a leopard
that is young and able;
The mirror is reflecting
that the scene 'ain't stable;
We've got more in us now
than the Periodic Table.

This definitely reads like a song that I can hear in a cafe full of artists on a hot afternoon.

thank you for sharing...

Just checking out the competition... this was good enough to get me to read it twice. What I like about the contest is that Zayra asks us to let the poems/songs influence the direction of our work, but let the final product be in our own voice, not Leonard's. This strikes me as "rappier" than Mr. Cohen's, while my own is more "mechanical", perhaps... but this has the raw-edge rasp and some clever imagery that, to my mind, could put it in the contender's box. Nice effort.

You are Too Kind...
I have to thank you for that review..and hope my effort retains the spirit of Cohen and says something meaningful and entertaining. Visit my poetry set to my own original music at www.nakedadam.net
