Luminaries of historical nights
bright and shining lights,
leaders of men who by
courage and bootstraps lifted
far more than was possible;
and the room seemed to glow
from the energy of faith and perseverance
breath came easily here, amongst clouds;
but all eyes turned and silence rose
like a curtain upon the stage
of eternity, as a small round shouldered man
sat in the middle of the room;
some said he was the first taken
in the great diaspora out of Africa,
no way to know and be assured; no
his was the first voice,
lifted in prayer, for freedom.

Powerful, simply stated and very effective. My favourite part /by courage and bootstraps lifted far more than was possible/

This has so much meaning. I love the line (The room seemed to glow from the energy of faith). It had so much glow in itself. Wonderful poem. Keep writing.

Wow, the power of this is amazing, gave me goosebumps. Too many favorite lines to quote them all, but liked "leaders of men who by
courage and bootstraps lifted
far more than was possible;"
Outstanding!
