laying on the colder concrete garage floor
covered away from the pouring rain outside the open door
One boy's mind was being exercised with vigorous homework
with one hand gripping his pencil as he wrote his explanations
while his other, stroked the fur of his loyal dog beside him
Across from him lays another boy with a boom box beside him
He lets his eyes close while the music fills his head
lulling him to sleep against the cold ground peacefully
nothing could possibly bother him now
but the silent jump between tunes
The last friend relaxes between them
leaning against the wooden step beneath the home’s door
Her tired, relaxed eyes stared at her relaxed friends
For her, everything around her seemed to be
in a stand-still of time, making the moment last longer
with every gentle breath she took
For the friends precious moment
everything is calm and simple
They are without a care in the world
as they listen to the pit-patter of the raindrops
fall onto the roof of the garage above them
and the music playing out to them
The gentle rain clears the air around them
spreading the freshness to surround and lighten the mood
The girl's eyes wandered from her friends to the outside rain
feeling as though she was on her comfortable bed at home
staring out into the street with a smile upon her face
Though, instead of her soft, comfortable mattress
she lies upon a small green rug and the hard wooden stairs
her fluffy pillows have been replaced by a stiff book bag
and a slightly dampened towel
used to dry her head after being caught
in the sudden downpour of rain
She had never been so comfortable however
without someone holding her with gentle arms
Security of the love from her friends
drenched her to relax against the rug and hardwood
staring out into the rain with those soft, tired eyes
while the music gently echoed among the walls
Author notes
This poem is a little older. I wrote it in my friend's garage one day when I went back with him and my other friend to his house to study. We then got caught in the rain and ran to his house soaking wet. I had endured a harsh break-up not two months before I wrote this, and it was and is the most serine moment I had felt in the longest time. A moment where I could finally feel safe and shine a smile on my face without a boyfriend beside me. I took out my little notebook and this, is what I wrote. =]
Please tell me what you think, honestly =]

All I can say is to have friends around you after going through a bad break-up is the greatest thing in the world. They are there for you to draw strength from, to be your support.
This poem was an amazing read, so easy to follow and easy to understand, definantly a great poem. Also, for me to actually feel calm and relaxed while reading a poem is hard to achieve, so full credit to you on that front too.
Best of luck in the contest.
