Tears

Red sandstone cliffs erosion bands of braided beads
white tip feathered wings of eagles, in dark clouds fly
blue waters river winding through green valleys it feeds
free spirits stormy weather lightnings flash brightly in the sky.

Listen closely and you will hear the beat of village drums
thundering rhythms for singing Indian tribal songs of lore
look back into our nations past to see from where it comes
follow moccasin trails across the land from shore to shore

Once, like fair winds, spirits whispered wisdom through prairie grass
our people and animals lived together in harmony with the earth
we did not need to find words for what in the heart comes to pass
like tails wagging dogs, tongues speak words to alter man's truth.

No longer do the buffalo run, hunters killed them for lost hides
yellow stones of golden greed line mans pockets of worth
man has traded away natures harmony and serenities rides
great spirits watch with eagles from where they fly over earth.

What they see only brings tear drops of rain.

beautiful yet so so sadly true...

We as humans are killing her (earth) so much has changed since the time when Native Americans freely traveled through paths the beat on their own. We are a parasite...and frankly I can understand why shes trying to get rid of us. Life then was so much simpler...there are times I wish that I could have been there with my ancestors, where I could see this amazing land completely untouched in all its glory...
    Beautiful piece you have here...

    Beautiful

I loved the picture, and you complimented it beautifully. This is a very powerful poem and well written, though I admit that I had a hard time following it now and then. Great imagery, and personafication, and just a really well done poem that is deserving of it's gold.
    Good luck and God Bless

    Poignant!

A very beautifully written piece that's
    thought provoking and insightful.
The images you painted with your words
were haunting reminders of how far we've
    fallen from truth and righteousness.
Material things have long since replaced
morals and values. We are a lost people
in search of a forgotten society.
Its time for us to wake up and smell
    the roses. Great work

Then it is about bloody time we as man took a real hard look at what we are doing to this planet...even more so what we are doing to each other....the words o wisdom echo down through the ages but they fall on deaf ears cold hearts and souls that know only greed...i wonder what they will all do with the great bounties of wealth when they are dead and gone ..cant take it with them ... or perhaps the earth will turf mankind out ..adrift in space. off the soapbox ...brilliant write as you do with rhyme and reason .... a heart felt piece supporting the artwork and a good take on the prompt...good luck in the contest.
