A Truth of Life

Missing image

 Graphic of unknown source.

.

One, David Attenborough, speaks and acts

The themes of Nature, Wordsworth of the screen;

Fit prophet for our Age of gleaning facts

As truth, or truths as fact to glean.

I’ve felt for Thomas, doubtless will again:

Never turned aside from paths to need

That spark to life, the embryonic grain

Of faith, a food on which we doubters feed.

 .

And having fed, we walk far fields for more …

Still more, where stranger creatures stretch the mind

Than guessed, to gauge, to measure and explore

A teeming womb of  living things to find

 .

Evolving Nature, struggling, life-inspired.

Reach out and taste this grain, divinely fired.

Author notes

Sonnet should be self-explanatory apart from the "Thomas" reference. St Thomas, the disciple of Christ.

Alas, this is the second poem tonight I have encountered that I am unable to critique, partly because it is a sonnet, a form I am not briefed in, and also because it was so wonderfully done. So I shall simply tell you what I told the other: "If you choose to enter another piece, let me know and I will reopen the contest for you to submit a new one, otherwise, this one will stand as is, and will be a good competitor for gold, I assure you. I apologise for my lack of a critique...

P.S. If you do chose to keep this one in, just comment on the contest page to say "editted" anyway, as I am not bothering with writes that did not attempt to do so. Thx "

Thank you. I really do not have the time now. I have looked through the fourteen lines. There is little I can do. I could tinker but it might end up worse!
      I'll say edited.

Which Thomas? Aquinas, Didymus, Dylan? - doubt appears, so perhaps the second. I enjoy Attenborough's documentaries, he will narrate from anywhere!

Your examination of physical facts as the standard of knowledge proceeds to other ideas and faith. In the volta you turn to experience for deeper understanding of truth. The couplet sums up with an exhortation to taste and see. Quite a good sonnet, good luck!
