Forever dead from shots of war
Remnance of peace there was before
The hurt and pain the slaves did bore
Thank God this war is done.
All because of state's secede
And all the other who'd decide to leave
To form the U.S Confederacy
Thank God this war is done.
The blue and grey to match the sky
Under which the bodies lie
To watch the iron ships go by
Thank God this war is done.
For this country they all bled
Though many of them wound up dead
Forever the battlefeild stained red
Thank God this war is done.
This war that lasted four long years
Who thought the end would be so near
But blood that flowed as swift as tears
Thank God this war is done.
The bodies lay in southern sun
Thousands since the war begun
And finally, the Union won
Thank God this war is done.

Well done!
I think most of us are relieved that the Union won; and this is wonderful example to me that the Civil War is not being glossed over in any detail in schools. I remembering watching the movie "Glory" in 8th grade; and now from reenacting I know some of the extras that were in the film as soldiers. Good job, and good luck in the contest!
