I'm wearin' Granny's smile

Missing image

everybody said I look just like my Granny

"but they don't know how much I really do"

I got her big blue eyes and her blonde hair

and I've got a birthmark just like hers..

way back there

yes, and I'm even wearin' Granny's smile

you see, Granny died about a two years ago

and then the family gathered together to go through her clothes and things

But I really couldn't think of anything she had that I wanted ,

so I left them there.... to go through what was left of her belongings

after all, they didn't know...

I  already got what I wanted.....

            ....I'm  wearin' Granny's smile

ohhhh... but getting use to them wasn't that easy!!

    HAHAHA!

This was very cute. I love the fact that you can see the beauty in your grandma's passing and that you don't just write about the bad part of death. This put a much needed smile on my face.

  • This is so cute. I loved the picture and laughed at the write itself. When my great-grandmother passed away when I was 10 she left me a pillow from a natzi concentration camp. I thought how rude she left me an old nasty pillow with writing on it. But then my grandmother told me the story about how she was made to live in a camp far away from her family and the courage that she showed. Then i loved that pillow. I still have it to this day and ahve slept on it everyday of my life since she willed it to me. I am now 30 and it looks so raggedy. But hwen my kids ask about it I just tell them the story about my Great grandma and her courage. It makes me proud that she would leave it to me.

Those false teeth are really a clever touch! Your poem is the real beauty here, though, and makes the reader appreciate what a loving person you are.

Ok, you got me. The ending was NOT what I was expecting because I didn't see the contest you had entered.

This poem has a ring of sincerity and reality. It begins with such a sweet feeling of memory and affection! It made me think of my Granny who died many years ago now. SHE had a grand sense of humor and would have loved this so much.

I would bet that if your granny (or Mom) died, you would still be happy with just sharing that smile (minus the false teeth, of course!)

Congrats on the silver. Write some more now. You're good at it. ~ Joyce

    Dear Mary

Fiction is not nearly as strange nor as remarkable as real life, is it?
    Good job on this, Mary!
And if you don't my saying, your Mom was a beautiful lady!

    Fun!

It started off SO sweet, that what was important for you to remember about Grandma wasn't her "things". I was ready for other good memories of support and caring - the dentures were a great twist and Lots of Laughs!! Thank you!

    BRILLIANT

I think this is the berries. Beautifully writte, and so close of a tale to my own life. You tell your daughter to give me a buzz, for my hubby and I have been writing tunes together for twenty four years. I wish her much luck. It seems to run in the family!

I'm sure the song would be a winner

When I think of false teeth, I always think of a friend of mine who was just starting out in nursing. She was caring for elderly patients and was collecting their falsies to clean them She put them ALL in the one container, and then realised that she wouldn't know who's were who's

    Well penned

Well the ending did not turn out how I expected it to, but it definatly was cute. It was really sweet and loving at the begining and then turned humorus, which is a nice touch expecially when writing about death, because everyone should have a lighter heart about it, their life is not ending it is just begining, just not here with us anymore. Great write!

She is my favorite person in the world and this just really moved me. Fabulous write, I LOVE THE PICTURES!
