A pile of limbs,
Bloody stumps.
Is that leg
Kissi
or Kikuyu?
In death no-one can tell.
Did that hand,
so similar to your own-
Commit some unseen sin
That it should be hacked off
With a machete,
Stained with too much Kenyan blood?
Kalenjin, tell me
where your blood ties end-
Are you a son of your country,
does Kenya pound through your heart?
Or are you part of less,
your tribe that clings so hard
to all that's lost?
Does your blood run deeper still-
right into Africa,
into the very earth
that seeks to bleed you dry,
such cruel and haunting beauty,
natures saddest trick
and mans greatest test.
So much rage and hatred
for your brother,
his wife and children
pay his price in blood.
The place you should be king
has claimed your soul now,
the land where your blood sings
has drained your heart.
The day to end the killing
came and went so long ago
The greater good to be achieved
Can gain no start.
Someday soon you'll see
The ghosts of Kenya
Spectres 'cross the land
All come to watch,
Ethiopia, Somalia
Uganda and Sudan will spill
their lost ones,
and the shadow of the dead
will block the sun.
In death perhaps you'll learn
That we are nothing, nothing
but a case that holds a soul.
Upon your grave will be your
lasting testament:
Another missing piece from Kenya's whole.

This is an incredibly powerful piece, a tough but necessary read for all of us. These images are unforgettable,
"Ethiopia, Somalia
Uganda and Sudan will spill
their lost ones,
and the shadow of the dead
will block the sun."
Thank you for sharing this.

Moving, deep, informative piece about the rampant violence afflicting our modern world. I really liked the feel of a protest-chant in this, as well as the witty and provoking title. Thank you for spreading the awareness of a true tragedy.

Clever title and the poem itself is incredibly powerful. It's appalling what one human can do to another with any remorse. The definition of war. Thanks for sharing!

The title soft-stutters the country and the poem parades the sorrowful sights of limbs hacked from bodies bled by brother set against brother, the poet pens so that others may see and find a better way for today and tomorrow.
The link within the author notes is welcomed,it will enable us concerned enough to look and be informed further of this bloodied, battlefield of reality.
Power to your pen dear poetess.
