Happily ever after lies
within falsehoods and foggy dreams
Alone
I sleep alone
Happily ever after falls
upon deaf ears longing
to taste the sweet melody of an "I love you"
Dreams fading upon the waking
Like a morning mist
Under the gaze of the sky’s eye
I
I sleep alone
Happily ever after is not the work of my hands
Nor the searching of my eyes
The pleading of my heart
Like the smell of just cut grass
Happily ever after is not found in eternity
But in the aromatic power of the moment
With the promise of eternity looming
hungry mistletoe
I sleep alone
Dreaming of happily ever after
A kiss in front of tearful eyes
Two words
tickling two tongues
And a kiss that lasts
as long as it takes
my younger brothers to tell me
that she and I need to stop.
It’s time for cake.
Happily ever after,
Lost in my wife’s eyes.

I think that because of the joy in happily ever after is juxtaposed against the expressed loneliness, this is such a great poem. I really liked how you put it when you said:
"Happily ever after is not found in eternity
But in the aromatic power of the moment
With the promise of eternity looming"
I really enjoyed reading this. Thank you for entering my contest -
*sigh* weddings...they always make me cry. Especially as the bride is walking down the aisle...then again when the couple say I do. You know, I even cry when I don't even know the couple that well...weird things weddings. We pin so much hope on them.

Indeed...I pin a great deal of my hope on one wedding. Whenever it happens...
