I feel betrayed by my nation
as I leave, my duty station
I, about to embark on war
they, divided and keeping score
tempers now flare, they disagree
only half, will stand behind me
united nation, split in two
each one asking, "which side are you"
this war has brought the worst of men
yet, best of soldiers out again
as I leave, my duty station
I, about to embark on war
they, divided and keeping score
tempers now flare, they disagree
only half, will stand behind me
united nation, split in two
each one asking, "which side are you"
this war has brought the worst of men
yet, best of soldiers out again
Author notes
We may or may not support the war, but can't we at least support the troops who fight the war they are after all OUR troops!

I really like the way that you have split open the issue and shown what it really means to the soldiers
This is well written and I enjoyed it... good luck in the contest
Keep writing

Yeah!
Yeah!
And this is true indeed,
thank you for writing about this topic!
I really enjoyed it.

Too true! It does our fighting men and women no favors to despise them for doing the job for which the enlisted. I love reading poems with consistant meter . . . thank you for yours!

-
It is heartbreak to see such young faces out there.
When will we find an answer to this bloody thing called war. We Pray for you and peace and harmony.

-
Ours is not the reason why, Ours is to do or die.
Something like that.It has been a while since I thought of this.

-
Quite agree!
It's not the troops who decide to go out and fight ~ it's those bloody pot-bellied politicians who watch the death and devastation from the comfort of their air-conditioned ivory towers.
Good point made here. Well penned..

'tis true, these words you speak... or shall i say write?... I have to say that SOME wars are worth fighting for, but ALL of our troops deserve the help. it may be just one person, but if every 'one person' thought like this, it would be much easier on the troops and their families
A great write to say the least

I support any soldier who is fighting for the rights of the underdog. Not only those whom the government send overseas, but also for the Native Americans here in the US fighting for their right to live as free and people and to be treated as human beings.
-
I'm rather the person who will never support any war to be honest. Off course, supporting the troups who are sent over there is something completely different so I have to agree with you on this one.
Nice rhymescheme you have going on in there, though I'm not sure about 'war' and 'score' being a good rhyme - but that's probably because English isn't my maternal language

Amen!!!! thank you for this write. We cannot read enough of these in my eyes.
I support the fact that they are there risking everything dear to them....while I'm here reaping the benefits of their sacrice!
may God be in, and with, the heart of every Soldier!!

I agree as well .We need to get these guys home what the fuck is wrong with our government? I don't support the war but I appreciate the troops for doing something I would never have the guts to do.

-
Oh I so agree with you dear.
I personally feel that things
could have been approached at
a different angle versus
blindly and revengefully
throwing out troops out there,
but that's just me.
Thanks so much for presenting
your point of view on this
matter and for this tribute
in their honor. The troops that is.
Keep penning,

You raise a good point. I don't support war. That doesn't mean i don't support the troops. I just think things could have been done to prevent it and only go to war as a last resort. It has already lasted 7 years. When is it going to stop?
