I still remeber like it was yesterday
The few weeks before high school prom
We were always talking at lunch
And in our biology class
I wanted to ask you so bad
But I couldn't find the words
Or the courage to do it
I think it was a Wednesday
When I finally got the nerve to ask you
Perfect timing too
Over a partially dissected frog
I'll never forget the feeling when you said yes
It was like a ten ton weight being lifted off my chest
Then came prom night
That magical and reverent evening
The image of you
In that flowing pink gown, with flowers in your hair
Is forever etched upon my memory
There I was in my jet black tuxedo
With a red vest and tie
My heart was beating so fast
As we posed in front of all that expensive camera gear
The flash was so incredibly blinding
But it was well worth it
How often do you get to stand next to such radiant beauty
For the sake of a photograph
After pictures came the infamous prom dinner
I don't remember what we had
But I do remember that it was very inedible
About fifteen minutes after dinner is when the real fun began
Music started pumping out of those giant speakers
Fast songs at first
Yeah, we had fun dancing to those
But you could tell that I was waiting for a slow one
Then after I think it was six songs
A slow one finally came on
I felt your arms wrap gently around me
As you rested your chin on my shoulder
My heart was pounding like a jackhammer
as we slowly twirled in each others arms
I'm not going to lie
I tried to cop a cheap feel
But at least I tried to be a gentleman about it
As the song continued on I could feel myself melting into you
I felt strangely relaxed
Like none of my problems on the outside mattered at all
I was so very happy and caught up in the moment
Amidst that sea of people
There was only me
And there was only you
Spinning in a sweet embrace
That seemed unbound by the constraints of time

Oh my! This is breathtakingly beautiful! I like the hint of humor in it, too. But this so sweet and so adorable. It's nice to read something nice like this. It's been a while since I have read a poem where something went right. Beautiful.

change is always good lol. too many poems about a lady in a red dress, its too cliche. i hope you dont mind, but i wrote something else off of the picture from the contest. its called Shadows Of Red. i think i might use that picture more when i have more ideas. its so very elegant. i can really take a lot from it.
