When Are You Coming Home?

we grew up, side by side,
sharing a room,
sharing toys,
I think I'm wearing
one of your old shirts,
actually, everything
that I wear right now
was yours...once.
You me, and sister three,
we had fun, just being the girls
the farmers daughters,
the little cowgirls,
dreaming big dreams,
of our lives to be.
Here I sit,
writing poetry,
dreaming of times
long past.

When are you coming home?
my sister, dear?

You always had the brains,
yes, some brawn, too,
although, I always beat you up,
Bet I could still!
Now you wear the blues,
of the Air Force,
proud and true.
A dream you've always had,
one I think I shared, too,
in dreams of your future.
Now I sit here,
drawing my plans,
making them come to fruition,
and you aren't here.
You won't be at my graduation,
you won't see me off to college.
But still, what you do,
means more to me, than anything.
My sister,
I write this in honor of you.
God bless America,
the land you fight for.
God bless the people,
whom you care so much for.

But still, I sit here and ask:
When are you coming home?

Author notes

I love my sister with all of my might.

She means so much to me.

She won't be deployed, seeing as she is pregnant now, but still, I hardly see her. Mostly its talking over the phone.

Please, if you hate the military, don't comment. I might hurt you if you flame my poetry because you don't like what my sister does for a living.

Actually, I'll hurt you because I care so much.

Thanks for the read!

This poem is amazing, I don't know if I could ever live knowing I had a family member over seas. I'm sure your sister is an amazing person, and please send my thanks to her for fighting for our country.
