A river flows, from her bloodied nose
She was talking back, you know how it goes
He wanted sex, but she refused
For that response ,now battered and bruised
It wasn't a request, it was a command
But she said no, and got the back of his hand
She lay on the floor, bleeding from the head
While he brutally raped her, and left her for dead
She'd had but enough, of his misery and pain
And by getting rid of him, had so much to gain
The next evening, he came back from the bar
She knew he was home, she could hear his car
So with a butcher knife, she waited behind the front door
And when it opened, he became never more
He lay bleeding badly, on the floor, from the head
But like done to her, she finally left him...for dead
Never again a river flows, she has had enough
You know how it goes

"Never again a river flows, she has had enough
You know how it goes"
Powerful and compelling work poet. So many women feel the back of so many hands... it's a wonder that so few take this way out! Bravo!

A familiar tale for many unfortunately. I think your piece makes its point bloodily
good one.

I'm sorry but this entry is not in alignment with what my contest entails. It's about ending the cycle of abuse not repeating the role of abuser. I must ask if you read my contest in it's entirety? I will await your response on whether you would like to revise or just have me remove it. Now that I know you are on please respond in im if you are going to revise.

I love the repetition of 'You know how it goes', this is unfortunately something that I am sure happens more than we know...or perhaps a scene many of us ladies have probably acted out in our minds at one time or another.
Nicely written. Good luck in the contest.
