Concrete towers,
Basking in a neon glow
That seems to shift
In the shimmering haze of smog
That settles, like smoke, in the streets.
Glistening rain,
Pelting down,
Like glittery confetti
At a large masquerade ball,
Splashes on the pavement
And trickles into the gutters.
Billboards and vendors
Advertise extravegance,
Showing glimpses of worlds
That we wish we lived in.
But, behind the city,
Living alone in a small bubble of reality,
A girl sits on a rooftop
And looks down on the ant-like people
Scurrying below.
As they race to the next
(Audition,
Counselling Session,
Botox treatment,
Court appearance,
Job they hate)
Thing to scratch off of their to-do list,
This girl's lips form a subtle smile.
She is glad that she has chosen to live here,
Behind the city.
