To follow in the footsteps of the Bard
and hear words seeping forth from Avon’s veins,
this nations inspiration’s never jarred;
the beauty Shakespeare found, she still retains.
To seek the village church revered by Gray,
the woods and groves where Milton found his muse
and minstrels sang of where young lovers lay;
this Country offered them the words to choose.
Maybe this land will tire of man’s harsh tread;
his footsteps now erode her grassy plain.
While many turned their backs; abroad have fled,
it’s here the poet’s heart will still remain.
Forever more their voices resonate;
this land inspires and makes Great Britain great.

Bravo!
This is a wonderful, well written tribute to a special place that cradled those who inspire us. Nicely done!

This is charming in a saccherine-sycophantic sort of style. Slightly Blakean perhaps but lacking in irony perhaps.

Oh, I do love your poem so much and wish I might visit your fine country, poet friend.
Beautifully written, most truly.

Congratulations. Most enjoyable.

This is terrific, and a subject very close to my heart.
I can't comment on the silver trophy because she is ignoring me but I thought the standard here was very high even if the numbers were low. I won't say if I agree with the order or not but I enjoyed this a lot.

If there is anything a person can make into a fabulous sonnet it is their mother land.
Thank you so much for this entry... it was beautiful and it amplified the beauty of the picture as well. I have never been to Great Britain but you have created something wonderful from it. Thank you so much for this entry and good luck.
