Shadows mark the path ahead,
willing are you to be led,
faith and faction have you fed,
all your thoughts now truly dead.
Look you to the voices near,
turn do you to what you hear,
promised safety from the fear,
letting back seat drivers steer.
Sects and cults the promised land,
arch the jackboot marching band,
underground and underhand,
over you and ever planned.
Shadows cause the real to die,
hooked by word and killed by lie,
never do you ask but why,
looking always to the sky.
Always will the word be fear,
never shall your Gods appear,
shredding life and shedding tear,
shadows cast the veil of fear.

Interesting use of the word 'shadow'. I've often seen it used to indicate the loving spiritual presence of good, but you use it here as just the opposite, the overshadowing spiritual presence of control and fear. Well composed piece. It's sort of like reading in reverse the language use is so similar but turned over. You have a great facility with rhyme too...is this an Irish trait?(hope this doesn't offend)I am only making a (possibly totally inappropriate) comparison to the darkness in your writing and my own perceived Irish tendencies to write dark spiritual works...I like the work, and am quite curious as to the influences to your perspective. Peace, Rhonda
