I owe more to Eddie Poe than Shakespeare
In learning to give voice to my love,
For Shakespeare dealt not with unrequited passions,
Whereas, for Poe, they were a demon to drown.
I owe more to Homer than Ovid
In learning the art of sight;
Ironic that a blind bard should prove so good a teacher
When I scribe of your beauty, your crushing, paralyzing beauty.
I owe more to Sartre than to Kant
In forming my pubescent brain into what it now is,
For how can we deny that the universe doesn't care
For any of us, when we ill care ourselves?
Regardless, to each of these I owe a little,
Or, to some, I owe very much,
But, alas, they are all dead now, as dead as Jesus,
So I'll pocket the cash, and hook them up later.
