The Approaching Storm (Sonnet)

The approaching storm rages inside me,
pacing the widow's walk again tonight.
My endless cries like a wailing banshee,
as this aching heart is my destined plight.

This estate purchased two decades ago,
it was our dream house right on the ocean.
Now all alone as these evil winds blow,
the pain of loss, my only emotion.

Roaring the echoes deep down in my soul,
the lights remain burning for you my love.
Although knowing I'll ne'er again be whole,
my mem'ries of you I can be proud of.

Sea captain's wife;  now a widow I am
and these crashing waves, a battering ram.

Examples of a rhyming scheme:

A Shakespearean (English) sonnet has three quatrains and a couplet, and rhymes abab cdcd efef gg.
An Italian sonnet is composed of an octave, rhyming abbaabba, and a sestet, rhyming cdecde or cdcdcd, or in some variant pattern, but with no closing couplet.

I don't envy you for having to judge them. LOL I'm very happy that you enjoyed this. I was inspired by Amera on this, along with the picture. Love and God bless you always, in all ways. Joyce

This is a powerful story of loss and carrying on. Wow. What I love about this is that the couplet is the exclamation mark at the end of the story. Very good!
