Peace by Piece

Grandad was an Orangeman,
He marched every year fierce with pride,
Mum, dressed in best walked beside him,
Too young to be took for the ride.
Yet my dad is an Irish catholic,
And he married my mum just the same,
A divorced single parent-families shuddered,
But defiant she took on his name.
In Ireland it would have been foolish,
In England it just seemed like love,
Peace can be found amid madness,
It exists all around, not above.
We all have the right to feel angry,
We all the right to our pain-
But to shed others blood is barbaric,
And guilt is all death has to gain.
Memories are long for the victims,
Grief will never be stilled by a pen,
Tim Parry's face is so clear even now,
Peace was obtainable then.
Step out from the shadow of conflict,
Forgive what you can, lose the rest,
Take hold of the future, its yours now,
Peace is your right, not a test.
The scars of dear Ireland are many,
But the children of Eire can be free,
Pass peace down the line, not your anger,
Let them heal over wounds we can't see.
Time is a curse and a blessing,
We can not go back make it right,
But at least we can have a tomorrow
A new day, to say no to the fight.

Daisy..how ironic that I find this piece today...from you..I pray that you are alright, I got your message, but by the time I saw it, you were gone..We can talk later about that...sorry..

This is the most beautiful, touching, healing piece I've ever read by you, and I've read alot of them. It's so easy to hear your sincerity, that beautiful sincerity that flows from you..You have a heart as big as the world, and you are one of the most wonderful people I've ever met. You take on the pain, the raw gutwrenching pain, and you work your magic, so that every reader is left feeling you've said everything you could with your heart. You're aren't just sounding off, you're pleading, but quietly, genuinely, earnestly..
How you could hold me in esteem blows me away, for you are my hero, Miss Daisy..

This is a massive work, so many directions, emotions, with a resounding message of peace, it's time for peace. For you, as well. Find it, sweetheart. This is what you were born to do...heal wounds with your heart.
You are a master, my sweet, and I stand in awe, utterly speechless, reading this, feeling it, seeing your Mum and Dad, together..
This piece deserves so much more than congratulations..it deserves some attention from the entire world..

    Love to Buzz,
    and you,
    Jin

Firstly I want to say a big thank you for taking the time to enter my contest. And secondly, thank you for entering such a fantastic piece of poetry that has brought a lumo to my throat not just with its brutally raw honesty but the true sense of power in the words you have written. The flow is the piece is perfect apart from one area that I would suggest tweaking ( around the Tim Parry bit) but I am not holding that against you. I am measuring your poem against my emotional response and this has created an overwhelming one. Well done, thank you again and good luck xxx

Bravo. The title is perfect, absolutely perfect. Peace is only going to be achieved by piecing all the that was fragmented into the past.
The poetess reveals the raw reality and the wounds BUT does not add to them, she seeks to heal with hope and understanding and asks all others to do the same.
So many from other countries do not understand that the division between the two religious divides dissafects every aspect of life and yes, to love an Irish Catholic within the UK was accepted as love, sweet love whereas in Ireland the Protestant girl risked having her head shaved, being feathered and tarred and tied to a lamp post for the temerity of loving a Catholic.
The barricades, the barriers, the divisions that man has caused by religion should be put away, let each Irishman learn to live with the other, everyone is someone else's sister, father, mother, son, daughter or brother and they all have the same needs,to live, love, laugh, learn and all prayers will be answered when they all do this in peace.
Peace will be and is possible by not looking at the kaleidascope of the past but by uniting for the future and I raise a glass of Guinness to that. There has been too much pain for too long and in the fight for which side was right their was only sorrow, let peace be the answer to a better today and tomorrow.

As someone who served in Northern Ireland i had a first hand view of some of the hate and pain that resided there.I never felt hate toward anyone, but sadness. For its people are some of the most friendly i have ever come across.I guess like most places on earth religion tends to be the main cause of such hatred. This is perhaps why i have no religious leanings what so ever
A wonderful piece and a joy to read Thank you Good luck in the contest
