Just beyond this road
To the left there is a lane
That leads you to my home
And fields of harvest grain
If you'd like to visit
And spend some time with me
We could talk and bake a pie
With cherries picked from our tree
Then we could plan a dinner
Cooking food from out of the fields
Corn, potatoes, peas, and beans
The pickings are quite a yield
We could cook a nice beef roast
Perhaps a few pork chops too
Some home made biscuits piping hot
Especially made by you
Some fresh cold milk will be so nice
I milked the cows this morning
One needs to be careful of their tail
They swish them without warning

A Delightful poem
I love your poem. It is so downhome, warm and inviting.
Full of lovely mental pictures of a more rural subsistance, which seems so rare these day.
A very good take on the prompt.

Thank you MassMan for your kind review of my poem. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Had to chase some sadness and reading this again sure was the ticket. It takes the reader out of themselves and leaves room for dreaming. Great stuff!

I'm glad you reread this Wolfie and found some comfort in it.

There goes my diet for today! LOL, sounds like heaven to me. This poem really got to me, as this is the way I would love to live. Everything so homey and comforting.
Best of luck in the contest. -

Thansk Wolfie for you kind comment. I agree with you. I'd like to be out in the Country, but not too far out. i grew up in a small town, but lived in the City limits. There were a lot of farming towns all around us so I didn't have far to go to reach the country.

Sort of a comical and odd ending. But the rest was nice and reminded me of some people we know. I wished I could have grown up somewhere like this. Thanks for entering.

Thanks Frodofan for you kind comment. The ending is true, cows do swish their tail while being milked and never ever stand directly behind them.
