As sundown approaches, I recall;
last night, I took a step
back
Slept with the lamp on
all night long;
fitfully at that.
Radio playing no longer sufficient; had
to brighten my environment significantly
to balance the stress around me.
I need sleep without screaming
nightmares, haunting dreams
I grew to believe
that anger could destroy me
Felt their fears
and frustration frequently
I remember,
just a child then
Went downstairs to the den, alone,
in darkness, apparent lions ferocious
How can a 'grown up'
be thus afraid
of heights
Of dark,
anger or
sadness?
At times, I live like a reflective lantern
tumbling in an endless storm system
Struggling to absorb and project forwards
what daylight I can detect
At night I'd best concentrate on the stars;
in daytime I retain the value of my experiences.

Nice. I had to read it twice to get the full meaning but when I did, it made me think. I like the way you've laid this out and I only have one suggestion.
Instead of using such confusing phrases and huge words, write what you really mean. I understand that poems like this are eye candy but thats it. That's all they are. Half of us around here don't have near the mental capacity to comprehend what point the author is trying to get across. Don't tip toe around your meaning. If you aren't, I'm sorry. Maybe I'm just slow. Sorry for writing a page and a half, and I should probably bow down to you since your intelligence is obviously greater than mine. I am not worthy! Lol. Wonderful job.

You are correct; in this poem, I have tip toed around.
I'm pleased that you took the time to think on this.
As for the comments about intelligence, now you're just being silly
