Half gone

Back to back in bed again
Words whispered don't bridge the divide,
Wish time could take us back to when
Our eyes didn't share what's denied.
Love still tugs at ragged old scars
Yet together these hearts just won't heal,
So silently now, we just gaze at the stars
Not ready for this to be real.
Clinging to pictures of a happier pair,
Still confused by loves slow sad retreat,
Fragile spirits we've lost beyond repair,
Fixing us, an impossible feat.
Floating between past and present,
The future a foreign landscape,
The moon is no more than a crescent,
Pale witness that we can't escape.
Suspended in all our torn dreaming,
Laughter fills the nights now not the day,
Sunlight brings us back, less redeeming,
Ticking clock that we can't keep at bay.
So we both lie together but lonely,
All the words only bruise tattered souls,
Silence is best- memories only,
Prove our secret, we're no longer whole.
Tears fall with no finite reason,
Hard to say, its because its goodbye,
When the words stay unspoken, such treason,
Both safe living out this love lie.

    Superb

Brilliantly written and poignantly orchestrated. You lay bare the angst and the love lost in a subtle description of man's ability to play with emotions and turn life into a game of chess.Unwitting and innocent we walk into a vicious circle.
Slow sad retreat is so good
..and then the other lines do ample justice to the muse on display and I am blissfully satisfied as I have just tresspassed ..Shubs

Can there be a more sad life that one lived out when love has died.Night time has far to many hours to spend reflecting on what once was.(did those hours not seem to short when love lived within the heart) A very poignant poem and one i am sure lived out more than folk realize Thank you so much for entering the contest
