childhood

As the day turns to night
my mind wonders and takes flight
into memories of childhood
where i was always understood

The pain comes in the dead of night
I start to cry but it's alright
those days are past and gone for good
I would go back to those times if I could

As I wonder if I might
ever really leave these memories in the twilight
yet no matter what I do the test of time is withstood
as I age the more I am misunderstood

I wish I could take flight
and return to where my childhood memories invite
the day of the past gone for good
where I was always understood

I would love to go back and experience all those childhood memories as well.
I love how your poem reflects off of what every teen/adult person feels like... childhood memories are such a personal and cherished thing to us.

I enjoyed this, it's true, I long to be a child again, I wish to go back to the days when all I had to worry about was eating my vegetables and brushing my teeth... lol
To go back to the time of innocence would be great...
This poem also leaves me wondering, what the pain you speak of is, it leaves me wondering...
A great write, thanks so much for entering and best of luck!

This brought back fond memories, childhood is the best part of living.
Pity we never appreciate it when we are young. but as we get older we long for the days of innocence.

"I wish I could take flight
and return to where my childhood memories invite
the day of the past gone for good
where I was always understood "

I feel your pain and share your wish, but life isn't so kind there is no going back.
Thank you for sharing a sad but beautiful memory.
