The storm

Dead leaves
Flutter as they fall.
Cold wind
Is blowing in the night.
Black clouds
Are blocking out the moonlight.
It's pitch dark.
The storm is coming.

She walks
Battling her own storms.
She walks
Waiting for the other one.
She walks
Her tears turn into ice on her face.
They hurt her
She is hurt.

Warm drops of water
Attempt to soothe her cold, her pain, her despair.
The shouts of the storm
Reflect how she feels.
She feels trapped
In a game of guilt and sorrow.
It's not her fault.
It never was.

Warm drops of water
Turn the pavement into a mirror.
She looks down.
She stares at her reflection.
She looks like a monster,
A tormented one,
A vulnerable one.
Her place is alone in the storm.

She wishes to leave,
To leave this life,
She wishes a new one
One that won't be so sad,
One that won't seem like a tragedy,
A tragedy taken from novels.
She's vulnerable.She's hurt. She's desperate
Yet the storm goes on.

Loneliness was never her thing.
Yet slowly she accepted it was her destiny.
She is a monster.
She pushed him away.
He abandoned her. She cried.
It was her fault
Now loneliness became her punishment,
Her life.

Sometimes she wished
That someone would care,
That she is cold,
Upset and tired.
Bus she has no one
But the storm.
The storm always listened,
Yet never spoke.

Sometimes she wished
To go back and change
The mistakes she made
That offered her this curse.
But she doesn't have the power
Or the knowledge.
So she keeps on walking
Through the storm.

Wet to the flesh
She keeps walking.
She doesn't care that she's cold.
She needs a reflection of her pain,
One that balances her emotional one,
One that she can feel,
One that it's real,
During the icy storms.

Wet hurried cars pass by.
None stops. None cares
Of the pain she caused herself inside.
None wants to help her.
She can't change her  life,
Her destiny alone.
It's out of her power.
So she walks through the storm,
To the bridge.

The bridge seems lonely and desolate.
It saw so much. He heard so much.
She walks on it without fear.
The bridge is strong, stronger than her.
He will help her escape,
He will end this curse,
He will give her a better beginning.
She will jump through the storm.

She reaches the edge. She climbs it.
Below her, the river goes it's way peacefully.
She jumps.The water is icy.
She can't breathe.She doesn't struggle.
She has nothing to lose,
Nothing to leave behind,
Nothing but the pain,
Nothing but the storm.

Her chest is hurting.
She's getting dizzy.
She wishes for air
But the air is far away.
She wishes for life
But the life is far away.
And then she dies,
Alone in the river,
During the storm.

She wakes up.
She is far.
A low voice dictates the punishment
For giving up
For suicide.
Another mistake to be added to the list
She regrets it,she resents it
She jumped.
She now wishes,
To be back into the storm.

She is stuck,
In the worst place.
She is stuck
In everlasting pain.
How many mistakes she's done.
It's her fault,
That she's far,
Far away from the storm.

Author notes

Ok. No, I'm not suicidal. I just felt sort of down lately, and I needed to write something dark.
I actually wrote it during Geometry class...
Anyways, no, the girl in the poem did not blame herself for a break up. It's much more complicated than that. It's a family member that she pushed away.
