My Guest Would be 'Guest'

Known for his uncomplicated verses,
some may not think him the best.
However,I'd love to converse
with Edgar Albert Guest.

His humanity within
is exactly what we need.
With all this hostility among us,
are we all agreed?

Appreciation for the mundane
there seems to be a lack of.
It's true what The Beatles said-
All you REALLY do need is love.

Author notes

Ohhh-kay...so this is a terrible poem. Seriously, though, this is who I'd pick. I haven't written anything in almost two years. Please forgive me and have pity, lol.

Thank you for entering my competition and for inviting such an apt personage as E A Guest. Ever since I "discovered" his writings earlier this year I have become a fan of this amazing character who after such an unpromising start became such a famous figure.
I am sure you would enjoy your conversation over the meal especially about poetry and about family.
I appreciate the way you have incorporated references to enable readers to explore his story and his verses.
I am sure that when people follow them the answer to your question "are we all agreed?" will become "we are all agreed!"
    Jim

Thank you so much! He is one of the few poets I have a book of. I definitely was drawn to his love of family.

this is the column that 'ea' mentioned. He's a wonderful poet, seems to have a poem for every conceivable situation.
I think you would have had a wonderful dinner guest in him - moreso if there were kids around too.
Thanks so much for your entry. Von -Oldpoetry

Oh yes, I have read about Mr. Guest when Old Poetry ran a cute column highlighting his work... Seems he'd be a fun dinner guest indeed.
