Like an old family friend...
One not liked very well.
Old Man Winter is back.
He'll be staying for a spell.
Some think he's depressing
and his visit much too long.
But I welcome him right in,
for each season has it's song.
A song of reflection
by a fireside's glow.
A soothing lullaby.
A soft blanket of snow.
A winter symphony.
Memories of yesterday.
The laughter of children
enjoying a snow day.
Building a huge snowman,
giggling all the while.
Collecting lumps of coal
to give him a big smile.
The lilt of mom humming,
as she bakes gingerbread.
Gramps rustling seed catalogs,
planning gardens in his head.
Each season has its music.
Winter has a lovely song.
If you listen and enjoy it,
winter won't seem quite so long.
One sunny day while walking,
after a new fallen snow,
You see a crocus blooming...
Time for the old man to go.
Winter's song is ending...
A new season ready to sing.
Old Man Winter leaves us
with a promise of Spring.

This is a lovely work, I enjoy the rhyme, it binds the stanza and flow together. The reader is drawn into a lovely winter wonderland and snowmen are made. The lovely smells of gingerbread made, wander through the seed catalogs for the comming of spring. Father time takes winter with him as spring thaw comes.
