Victims of raids
Tied to each other
These children are dragged
From home to beyond
Soldiers, they force them
To kill their dear ones
Their mommies and daddies
Who showed nothing but love
Forcing to kill
Or else to be killed
Beating to death others
Who with them are caught
Beaten to death if their face shall falter
A land of horror
Death being the end
Children cannot go back home
Because of shame brought upon them
Who will accept them?
For killing the young
This is the intention
That soldiers enforce
"Hurt these children
Make them feel guilty
So they never escape"
Girls and boys, as young as five
Taken from home
Marching with loads strapped their backs
When they fail to keep up
Their beaten to death
While the rest have to watch
Some children are chosen from the group
And forced to kill
With axes and sticks and bricks and stones
Children in the army
Are starving to death
Living on their own urine
And leaves from the trees
Sick and weak they have to fight
Kill or be killed
This rule to all applies
Girls in the army
Fight like the boys
On top of it all
They are commanders' wives
At the age of 15
With no parent's consent
They're forced to bear children
At their own contempt
These girls are men's slaves
To do as they want
To work, to please, to mothers be
Their children are the future
Of this child army
Someday this generation will grow
Into the biggest army
This world has ever known
These children cry for help
Their calls are unheard
They cannot escape
For fear they'll be killed
Roots are broken, their family's dead
By the hands of children
Who were forced to kill
Kill or be killed
Its a sad world to live in
Help these young children
In the countries this lives
Kill or be killed
Its the motto they know
Its what makes them fear
The days that come...

Very sad poem, but also very true. Someone has to speak out for them. Thank you for doing so.
Thank you for entering the contest.

Yeah I know...I wrote this poem as part of my world issues portfolio [photo shopped and everything] and then made a video with it. It turned out so neat...I'll have to show you sometime. When I was researching for information on this piece I nearly fell back in shock...reading testimonials from children and everything else. You just have to cry! And then after writing this poem I found this contest and thought it would be cool to enter. Too bad I couldn't enter my video. Its much more impressive...with the poem and pictures and music...
