When I was just a little boy my mother used to bake,
her weekly bread and muffins and sometimes a fruit cake.
My playmates used to form a line and sit along the gutter,
sometimes waiting an hour or more for a muffin each with butter.
Midweek sometimes she’d cook rib stew with peas and carrots too,
she’d have it cooking half a day to boil the marrow through.
She said it’s full of nourishment you’l all grow big like me I,
looked and said nowt at the time she was only five foot three.

Excellent. Very cute, indeed. But what's wrong with being short? I'm only 4'11"
Thanks for entering my contest. It's an honor to have you show you work here.

This was a wonderful childhood poem and I love the humor in it. My son use to ask me when i was going to get taller. Good luck in the contest.

Awww, This is a lovely memory, home cooking the baked goodies. Our family all sat down at the table for super time. We now are a pretty close family, maybe thanks why they call it comfort food.
Well done,
thank you.

You have made me hungry and I bet your mother was a wonderful cook. I could just picture all you youngsters sitting lined up waiting for those muffins with butter. Yum!
The ending humor is great. I enjoyed this. Thanks for entering my contest. Blessings, Patty
