Drought is upon us here hay is seven dollars a bale,
drove into Catawba county to watch the cattle sales.
Old farms selling out to Yankees still  wanting to live in Carolina paradise.
Watching some folks pull up and leave, the older ones can't take the heat.
Nature shed her tears through me and every other woman, and man who stood and held
the hand of a child and prayed a silent prayer, as yet another day passes with no
significant rain. Lakes continue to run dry, rivers and county water supplies.
Small towns will be abandoned? I pray not. We broke a record third one already
this year says the weather man on channel three... God have mercy on the Carolina small towns.

God have mercy on me as I pay for ever rising feed and try to hang on to pass the
future to these grand girls of mine age one and three. Already Horse savvy beyond
they're years they make me proud....yes Nature sheds her tears through me.

The drought has been atrocious here, swelting heat, older community suffering the most. Excellent write Rheea.

Beautifully stated. There is no drought here but I've seen it in Texas. Waiting for rain and eventually shipping hay in from other states. There is a reason but only God has the answer. Good luck with your battle.

    nature's tears...

I can feel the emotion behind the words poet. And I can relate to the drought part... a lot of Australia has been going through the worse drought in 100 years. Up here in the north we've had good rain though... It's raining as I write this! I love the honest 'homespun' feel to this poem. good luck in the contest!
