As fingertips tickle the ivory,
time's only playing you, Josephine.
Your cabaret smile & curtains of lace
will not rewind the time or erase your life.
But tonight it's just you and a tune
so soft and sweet, I'd know its beat
at any old point in the song.
It might not be long
before your loveliness dies,
but as the last note rings on
into the night,
so shall your memory not pass away.
Though your legacy fades,
just as the pictures atop your dusty piano,
the flamelight of your spirit
will burn always--
revealing the glow, full of splendor,
that once only existed in your eyes.
