No Sense - Kyiv Gridlock

Pedestrians walk in streets these days,
parked and moving cars hog sidewalks.
Boulevards choke on new prosperity,
the city crawls when it is not locked.

New cars congest all routes;
two thousand more vehicles every day
without places to park, without space to drive;
where is convenience in gridlock?

In traffic going 1 kph, you can do anything.
Need to change lanes? Cut the other guy off.
Hey, there is an empty sidewalk for bypass.
It still takes 30 minutes to go a block.

What's the fastest way of getting there?
Don't take your SUV, Ihor, it will take all afternoon,
a taxi is no better - take the Metro.
What, and rub elbows with lesser stock?

At a dime for a bus ride, a car makes no sense.
Yet, in hundreds of thousands, Kyevans
drive from outskirts to the centre.
We can't make sense of insanity, we adjust.

    Get a helicopter.

    I expect Kyiv simply joins at least 90% of cities worldwide. England was not too bad. When our M1 is not crowded, hoons wrap their cars around trees or signposts. Wreaths and crosses by roadsides are testament to that.

    You could begin walking over the tops of gently moving cars in a coveyor belt sort of way.  Irrationality is Queen when car is King! You have said it well.

    The problem of the nouveau riche coming onto the streets to add to the mess is entirely understandable. In Australia, women drive 4WDs of their own because they feel safe! What about those who do not? And, said women never leave paved roads or bitumen.

    I told you!

    You have such a sane outlook on things. Do you know one cannot think in terms of sanity nowadays?

    If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

      Humour makes the world sweeter.
      I suppose it is not a question of sanity/insanity as much as conventional wisdom leading to unexpected consequences. Once we see where a trend is going, we must choose. I choose to walk, when there is no going and no parking if I get there.

        I told a poet this morning ...

        I love feet, for they carry faces ... and well, let me add: SOME of them carry brains, too HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And sometimes, like in YOUR case, walking simply looks like flying ...

    Most cities are going the same way. Try driving through Glasgow at 5.00pm. Or rather, don't.

      Trains are the answer in Glasgow
