Laying On The Beach With The Gulls Crying
The Sun Turning My Skin Into A Dried Tomato
And The Sand Sticking To Me As If I Was Velcro!

Oh How I Despise The Beach...
But It Was A Family Trip..
I Shall Have To Suffer In Silence

I Walk Along The Shore, Finally Aching From Laying Too Still
The Water Stings My Sunburned Calfs
Oh My Misery!

I Step On Something Smooth, Buried In The Sand Below The Surface
I Yelp As I Fall Over
Heh, There Goes My Idea Of Staying Dry!

I Look Back And Shuffle Around The Sand, Looking For The Object I Fell Over
There's Something Smooth In My Hand
I Tug With All My Might And Fall over Again

I Look At The Object Stuck In My Hand
Its A Glass Bottle
Its Blue...What An Odd Color

I Looked At It, Confused  And Amazed
It Looked Old
It Was Worn And Bare Of Any Labels

I Turned It Over In My Hands
It Was Sturdy, Not Very Heavy
I Held It Up To The Sun And Saw Something Was Still In It

I Mused What It Could Be In It
My Father Called, Yelling For Me To Come Along
I Sighed, I'll Open It Later When I'm Alone

That Night I Sat In My Room
It Was Dark Outside And I Had A Candle On My Table
I Looked At The Bottle Neck

There Was Wax On The Lips Of The Bottle
I Frowned, Looking At My Nails
Hm... No Nails...

I Looked Around For Something Sharp
I Finally Got Up, Hiding The Bottle In The Crook Beneath My Bed
I Walked Down To The Kitchen And Grabbed The Corkscrew

"This Should Work..."
I Ran Back Up To My Room, Now Completely Excited About The Bottle
I Went Over The Things That Might Be In It

I Jumped On My Bed And Grabbed The Bottle
I Wrenched The Corkscrew Into The Plug And Fought With It For A Moment
I Finally Managed To GEt It Out

I Looked Down At The Bottle Again
There Was Definitely Something In There
Problem Was, It Was Bigger Than The Bottle Neck

I Would Have To Break It To Open It
Wonderful... Explaining Why There's Glass Everywhere..
I Grabbed The Bottle And A Blanket

I Laid The Blanket Down And Slammed The Bottle Down
Surprisingly it Broke
I Smiled, Rummaging Through The Bit Of Glass

I Was Cautious Not To Slice My Skin On Any Of It
I Didn't Want To Have Anyone Notice If My Hand Was Bloody
I Grabbed The Item That Was In The Bottle

I Held Up A Small Crimson Bag
It Was Oiled Cloth
I Smiled At Such A Color

There Was Something In It
I Reached In And Found A Small Necklace In It
There Was a Charm On It

I Held The Charm In My Hand
It Was A Moon And Star
It Was Beautifully Carved Out Of Wood

The Cord Was Worn In, Almost Breakable
Inside The Bag Was Something Else
I Fumbled With Pulling Out The Small Leather Bound Book

I Opened The Pages And Began Reading
My Eyes Grew Wider And Wider As I Read On
It Was A Diary Of A Female Soldier!

I Read On, Smiling
She Seemed Like A Nice Gal
I Continued Reading On

I Finally Got To A Page Where The Necklace Was Spoken About
I Read It
It Was A From A Native Boy, Named Blue-Jay

They Were In Love
He Was A Bit Older Then Her
She Didn't Care

Blue-Jay Ended Up Dying
But Before That, He Had Given Her The Necklace
She Had Always Worn It, But She Died Of Grief Later On

She Had Sent The Bottle Before That Though
The Last Page In Her Diary Held 2 Words:
Deliver Us

I Closed The Diary, Put It Under My Pillow
I Hung The Necklace From The Bedframe
I Crawled Back Into Bed And Slept

I Dreamt Of The Girl And Blue-Jay
I Dreamt Of Their Love
I Silently Thanked My Parents For Taking Me To The Beach

I Never Complained Again About The Beach
I Always Went More Enthusiastically Then The Others
I Always Searched, You Never Know... You May Find A Diary From History!

I like this a lot. The story behind it, revealed in the author's notes really helped! I liked how while it did take the form of a poem... it wasn't in your face poetry... like everything was taken very lightly. Thank you so much for entering... I do have one minor suggestion... nothing to do with the actual poem... just the caps kind of irritated me. Other than that everything was lovely.
