The snowdrifts gone from winter long
except for shadowed edges traced
The snow! The snow! The cold be gone!
Show us your pretty face...
Oh, fear not heady breaths of frost,
the icey teeth from sill displaced
the glare of arctic bite is lost
Show us your pretty face...
Oh, come my lovely dreamer shake
from 'neath the sleepy veils of lace
Oh, raise your crown; from slumber wake
Show us your pretty face...
I wonder is your smile on lips
of lavender and sun-sweet grace
and are your eyes like saffron tips
Show us your pretty face...
Oh, for the face of Spring I long
the crocus nestled in her place
Oh, beckoner of robin's song
show us your pretty face...

Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious [springtime]
Although for most people these practically define poetry, among professional critics romanticism, lyrical meter and conventions of form have fallen out of favor. Thank you for this flower in a wasteland of cynical modernism. New to this site, I hope this crocus is but the first of many delightful images for the heart and soul to be discovered with visits to your garden.

Magic
Really enjoyed this piece.
Best verse in my view and inspiring:
"Oh, fear not heady breaths of frost,
the icey teeth from sill displaced
the glare of arctic bite is lost
Show us your pretty face..."
crocus vs rose? no 2nd best, show us your pretty face...

delightful
Poem tale of spring, still desheveled by winters
ragged coat, and there it hides spring and her pretty face...unique, magical, a spell weave.

Face of the rose? Absolutely amazing. I love all the rhyming words for face, too. Repetition is wonderful. Everything about this poem was just lovely.
Thank you for entering my contest!
Always,
Cassie
