Mansion of Malice

As daylight droops its weary eyelids
and night's dark curtain falls,
what ancient evil stirs inside this mansion
and walks alone among its echoing halls?

When the sun goes down and lonely stars appear,
old secrets whisper drily in the gloom;
blood-tinged memories are then unleashed
and restless ghosts adhere to every room.

This house is tainted by the curse of Time;
saturated in the sins of long ago.
Rituals, long-forgotten, were enacted
in summer sunlight or in deepest winter snow.

Rituals, depraved and indefensible,
spawned in the darkest pits of hell,
where blood was shed and virgins desecrated
and evil was conspicuous by its smell.

No wonder that the house now lies uneasy,
the former owners having long since fled;
for who (except the morbid) would now live there,
to have their peace disturbed by fear and dread?

    Very spooky. But isn't indefencible spelt indefensible? We'll both have to sort out our orthography without delay. I think I recognise the house in the picture. In fact, I think I used to live there.

    Thank you for entering

    As daylight droops its weary eyelids
    and night's dark curtain falls,
    This is such a great image of day turning to night. Great job!

    You have told a wonderfully dark story about this house. The poem flows well and is a joy to read.
