And there upon a simple plank,
alone and unattended,
rested but a single screw
through the wood unmended
and there atop so plain a screw,
in raised imprinted frame,
are two letters, HM,
a signal to my shame...
A sinner am I and one so grievous
that simple nails could not
hold in place the very sins
that were party to the plot
and so I made this board and metal-
a memorial to one
who died and rose again
and had the victory won.
Day in and day out,
I fight an uphill war.
and so i look to the wood
a reminder to sin no more.
