Beaugus

Dear Beaugus,

If I should ever live to be
the person that you see in me,
I’d rule the world and all the lands
and gold would drip from off my hands –
as doggy bones and chicken treats.
I’d never wash my stinking feet
and stubble would become the rave
of all who dare to be so brave
to challenge you to win the heart
of one so brilliant, sharp and smart.
To you I’m charming warm and wise
and all I write should win first prize.

Who else could find that stick to throw
and take you on the walks that show
you where the deadest fish do rot.
I make the dump your garden spot.
In life and love and then beyond,
there’ll be no one who won’t respond
to what I do, think, want or say.
They all will heel, wait, sit and stay.

In me you see the start and end
the ups the downs and all the bends
of roads in life we’ve seen thus far
with both our heads outside the car.
Chase your nose to all that’s good
and know this love is one that should
be one on which you can depend -
I am the butt of your best friend.

Your tears well up as I depart.
Your eyes reflect the warmest heart
that says life will only start again
when I return to you - my friend.
There is no end for us in sight
for I shall labor day and night
to be, even to a small degree,
the person that you see in me.

and didn't I just ramble on so?  Can't help it.... this little doggy has me wrapped tightly around his little paw.

I don't think Beaugus is far off the mark in his opinion of you. And I cannot help but agree, "Ahhh, to be a dog like Beaugus!"

Sounds like Beaugus is man's best friend in more ways than one... Woman's best friend in this case. Very clever how you put yourself in his place.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

Very sweet, cute and heartfelt write. I like the pic too. I like how you also used it for the background, but not as dark... Nice touch...
    Back to the poem, lol.
It's very cute and sweet. I really like this It's a very sweet write... I just like it I'm sorry I can't figure out what else to say, but I'm under a large pile of homework and stress

He definitely rules my world... but is gracious enough to never give a hint that he knows that. But then again, he is so busy charming everyone into loving him, he hardly has time to do much else. Truly, he believes there is nothing to life but the joy of pure love.

Ahhh, to be a dog like Beaugus!

Oh my gosh, this poem is so sweet! I think your dog sounds sooooooo cute, and this picture that you chose is adorable! I've always wanted a dog that looked like this. Anyway, i think all this stuff you said about your dog is so great. People often spoil their pets, but hey, how could you resist? They're just so darn cute! LoL. Thanks for entering my contest, and good luck!

    Dear Hugh,
I thank you for your well placed applause. I deserve it. And anyone who recognizes my gorgeous eyes and tempts me with treats deserves my respect. But as I won't be in NZ any time soon, do you think you just send them overnight delivery? Wouldn't want them to go to waste over there.

    Respectfully,
    Beaugus

    Absolute devotion.

    Dear Beaugus,
Your idol Jane has told me so much about you (never mind the hall carpet - that was an 'accident') that I feel I really know you almost as well as I do her. If she ever brings you to New Zealand (which is a lovely country for dogs - we are surrounded by cats here and I'm sure you'd love scaring the sh..t out of them!) we'll keep the next T-Bone and Lamb Chop bones specially for you to gnaw on. We promise to keep the camel tied up too so you can give him hell and he can't get back at you! Jane has written a lovely poem about you here and you have eyes nearly as lovely as hers and I don't know about the stubble she talks about. Anyway here's some applause for YOU. And hey! Why not take her for a walk?
Love and Hugs, XXX your devoted admirer, Hugh.

    Perfectly perfect

This made me cry. It was the good kind of crying though. The poetry was brilliant; rhyme unflawed; meter perfect (or so close as to make no dif); flow unimpeded (well, except by that spelling thingy...I think it's "heel" rather than "heal"...but I could be wrong); practically perfect in every way....a Mary Poppins of a piece of poetry indeed. And, of course, the subject matter touched my heart...as you know if you've read any of the poems in which my Lucy is star. Thanks so much for this wonderful poem. Bet I'll be back to read it often.

This is brilliant! It's such a fab concept. "I'd make the dump your garden spot", "I am the butt of your best friend". Very very witty. It's true that you can do no wrong with a great dog. (I like to think my cat is just as affectionate--but she has claws!)

    Excellent! Delightful poem!

Very cute poem, very cute dog (like his name, too)! Really enjoyed the cadence in your poem and, same as Nando and silica, I was amused picturing both your heads outside your car!

My Beaugus thanks you with one huge stinky sloppy kiss, Runaway. (He hopes it makes the kitties jealous!)

Pets never judge us, that is for sure, but we are their servants! My cats sure have me trained!

    Adorable doggy BTW.

and Irene, Beaugus is just waiting to hear the verdict on his most soulful wet eyed photo - taken especially to share with your little button noses. Forced me to sign up, actually, just for that purpose! Am I wrapped around his little paw, or what?

And now I AM blushing - For now everyone knows of the silly things I do - usually without witnesses.

So, if everyone has gone, I will do a little naked jig around the living room to celebrate your kindnesses. And if that don't make you laugh.....

I’m afraid I’m with Nando… the same line got me too – could just see the worldly wise wind blow heads either side! Good luck!

"With both our heads outside the car"

At the risk of downplaying the rest of a very inspired piece, I must say I found this line more than slightly amusing - just one of those mental images that leave you grinning from ear to ear. (Of course, there are those who would suggest that I am easily amused - but I'm not grinning at their poems, now, am I?)

    : )
