From A Survivor

Everyday is slightly longer
A little more fulfilling
Everyday is one more day
I am alive

Sometimes when I look outside
To one of those cold dreary days
I find that I love it
Maybe a little more
than the beautiful yesterday
Because I'm still breathing
Still living
Still here

My past is what it is
My future comes rapidly
But every moment is slightly slow
My mind is always racing
As though I'm running a marathon
And just so close to winning
Or I'm in some new big city
Where every thing's the same
But at the same moment
It's all completely different

I've seen some beautiful sights
Like the sunrise from a high summit
I've seen had heartfelt moments
Like the warm embrace of friends
But I've also seen the ugly
Things that twist my insides out
The life that used to be mine
That I never doubt was there

Because back then I wasn't living
I was only breathing
I was only crying
But that is the past
And this is my future
MY future
MY life
And NO ONE will take this away from me
Because I am a survivor

Author notes

Umm... I guess I've been thinking of my past recently and trying to think of how I'm living now... Today I noticed something though, Today I noticed everyday, I really did like it better than the one before!

This is a very inspirational poem and I think it's a relief to write such a thing and believe in it, and you sound like you're convinced of what you say. You appear to have misspelled "then" in the first line of the last stanza. My favorite part was
    "Everyday is one more day
    I am alive"
Though not extremely creative, those lines are intense and they say a lot.
As for the experiment part of the contest, I don't think you were among the subjects, were you?
Thank you very much for your entry.
