My Fix

My love in life is poetry,
and I’m a dedicated man,
I strive to set my own muse free,
and be the best poet I can.

My life revolves around this plight,
some think I’ve become addicted,
because I made more time to write,
dropping things that once conflicted.

I had a meeting yesterday,
but cleverly I called off work.
Of course my boss withheld my pay,
he always was a stupid jerk.

I used to eat, but there’s no time,
strong coffee keeps me wide awake.
I live to find the perfect rhyme,
that oft sought icing on the cake.

That golden orb has long since set,
but I must get these words to flow.
I have not closed my tired eyes yet,
I think I slept two days ago.

Rooster won’t crow to herald dawn,
I used his tail feathers for quills.
That bird ran off and he’s long gone,
so night to day now simply spills.

The good news is this poem is done
I think it’s one that I will keep,
and done before the rising sun,
I’ll call off work and get some sleep.

Well, it sounds as though you are extremely addicted. LOL

Seriously, I loved the flow and ryhme of this write. There were some stanzas that could have been extracted, but overall, I really enjoyed reading this.

lol now this is what you call dedication to poetry when writing it takes over the other things in life. IT's not a very understanding boss, or obviously one who doesn't write poetry, when he can stop your pay for taking the day off work for the all comsuming task of writing. The lines about not sleeping for two days are funny yet realistic because I think we all have things in our lives that have kept us awake for one reason or another but it's better when it is something good, like poetry. I often go to bed with thoughts of a poem in my mind but I've lost it by the following morning. I don't think there is anything much that keeps me awake lol
