Aire 1
Fast flowing food store
Contaminated by progress
Isn’t science wonderful!
Aire 2
The knife that cuts the land
The thread that sews it together
The drain that empties it.
Aire 3
Bloated with winter’s excesses
Bursting its bulging boundaries
Awaiting the diet of spring sunshine
Author notes
These three not-quite-haikus were prompted directly by a contest for poems about my local river. In my case the River Aire in Yorkshire, England.
I hope the meaning of each is clear.

Yes, they are not quite haiku, but the images are very clear. I like the 'Fast flowing food store' to show river with (dead) fish. Very clever metaphor!!!

Thanks for reading and writing. My favourite seems to change each time I read them.
I have recently been working on Haiku over at the sister site Oldpoetry and have just added some work by the Haiku master Seishi in originak and translation. http://oldpoetry.com/oauthor/show/Seishi_Yamaguchi

No. 3 is my favourite Jim. It speaks to me of the winter snows melting, raising the levels and summer sunshine as the great leveller. lovely. Von
