I ripped myself out of bed, dreading another day at school. My eyes were heavy with exhaustion after my few hours of struggled sleep, but I woke up as I got in the shower and remembered that I had a boyfriend waiting for me at school. I rushed through my shower so that I could make time to blow dry my hair.
Stepping out of the shower, I dried off and wrapped my hair in the towel. Then slipping on my black sweats, red lacy tank top, and black long sleeve shirt over that, I got dressed. With my clothes on and my hair in the towel, I proceeded to finish getting ready. Finally I blow dried my hair and grabbed my keys to leave.
The drive to school was anxious. I couldn’t wait to see Jayden; couldn’t wait to kiss him. There wasn’t a long wait before Natalya pulled up and parked next to me. She was eyeing me funny, and I knew she was ready for details on my evening with Jayden. I had forgotten that I didn’t call Natalya telling her the good news.
We got out of our cars, and I figured I could wait twenty minutes to see Jayden in English. She didn’t waste any time before asking questions. “So, how was last night?” She was obviously curious.
“Amazing, to put it simply,” I answered, leaving out each event on purpose.
“Well, Brie, don’t hold back! I want details!” She knew my plan, and she demanded that I share my story.
“Okay, Nat,” I started. “He got my number by listening to Lauren tell another guy, so he called me and told me that he had followed me home and was waiting outside to pick me up. So we drove to his house, and saw Lauren’s car parked in his driveway. We sat there trying to think of a way to get her to leave, and came up with two choices. One, we leave, or two, we pretend to be dating. But then he said not to pretend and asked me to be his girlfriend. I got rid of Lauren, but I swear she’s trying to come between us, and I have a feeling that Craig is involved in her plan as well.”
“Wait,” Natalya interrupted, “Who’s Craig?”
“Craig Smith.”
“How is Craig Smith involved?” Natalya was clearly confused. She didn’t know they were twins.
“He’s Jayden’s twin brother. Hard to see, right? But if you look close enough, you see the resemblance.” I kept thinking back to fond memories of the night before.
“So he’s trying to break you up? Why?” Natalya quizzed trying to catch up on details.
“I don’t know why, or if Craig is really involved, but Lauren has a plan. But Jayden and I wont let her, we like each other. He kissed me, Nat,” I told her.
She giggled. “Is he a good kisser?” Before she finished the word ‘kisser’ her voice trailed off and she started to blush.
I looked at her curiously, until I had strong arms wrapped around my waste. “Hey, babe,” he whispered seductively in my ear.
Natalya took that as her cue to leave and enter the classroom. I spun to face Jayden. “Hey.”
His lips reached mine, but for just a brief moment. “I got an interesting call last night. The lady had a very beautiful voice. Care to explain?”
I knew he was talking about my frantic rush to call him and make sure he existed. A scarlet blush colored my cheeks. “Not really?” I answered unsure.
“What if I did this?” he asked, kissing me a little deeper, then pulling away. “Now will you tell me?”
“Maybe. One more,” I teased. Jayden leaned down and kissed me again. “Okay,” I started, taking a deep breath and looking into Jayden’s beautiful eyes. “I was thinking about my dream and how you suddenly appeared, then I fell asleep and there was no dream. So I started to freak out. What if it had the same effect? What if I woke up, and you weren’t here?”
“Babe,” he chuckled and pulled me close. “I’m not going anywhere. As long as you’re here and you’re mine, I’m here.”
I smiled, hugging him. The bell rang, and Jayden grabbed my hand leading me into Mr. Jameson’s classroom and back to our desks. We sat down quickly when Mr. Jameson looked at us, neither one of us wanting to get sent to detention again.
Natalya threw her pencil at me to get my attention, and I looked towards her. With her lips, but no voice, she said, “You two are so cute!”
“I know, right?” I chuckled, throwing her pencil back and smiling.
Class started, and first hour flew by quick. A smiled didn’t leave my lips the entire class period because I kept glancing over and saw Jayden staring at me the whole time. I swear he wasn’t paying the least bit of attention to Mr. Jameson’s lecture.
The minute the bell rang, Jayden jumped up grabbing his stuff, and mine, and taking my hand in his. We walked to the next class together, Algebra. This was the class we were nervous for, but we weren’t sure why we were nervous to be around Lauren. She could deal with the two of us, or ignore us, it was her decision.
We walked into class, smiles plastered on our faces. As soon as we passed Lauren and her friends, they got instantly quiet and watched us pass. They had to have been talking about us. I squeezed Jayden’s hand tightly instructing him to follow my lead, and I reached up and kissed him deeply, much to Lauren’s surprise. When our lips broke apart, I looked in Lauren’s direction and shot her an evil glare. She wanted war, and she got it.
Jayden and I took our seats by the window. I realized when Natalya sat down, that her and Jayden hadn’t met yet. My mouth opened as I leaned back, but before I could say anything Jayden read my mind. “Natalya, I assume?” he asked.
“Yes,” she said, looking at him and then at me.
“I’m Jayden. It is just a shame it took me so long to introduce myself to my girlfriend’s best friend,” he said reaching his hand out. The sound of him calling me his girlfriend made me weak, it was still so unbelievable.
“Nice to meet you, Jayden. I’ve heard a lot about you,” she admitted, but he seemed to know and took my hand with a smile.
“I hope you’ve heard only good things,” he joked, knowing I couldn’t down him. But then I remembered that yesterday I was so mad at him, and I gave Natalya a look to tell her not to mention that part.
“Of course, look at the way Brie looks at you,” Natalya said. “She’s crazy about you.”
I felt another blush rise in my cheeks. “Okay, new topic,” I stated, wanting to be far from the center of attention.
Both my best friend and my boyfriend laughed, and I glared. But I couldn’t glare for long and joined into their laughter. Everything was so perfect for me. I was on top of the world.
Class started, so Jayden and I turned to face forward. I kept glancing in the mirror he would watch me through, and when we’d make eye contact, he’d wink and I’d blush.
At a few points during the class period, I would look over to the mirror and catch eye contact with Lauren. Each time she’d glare, and I’d grin, waving subtly. It was obvious something was up, and I would stop it. There was no way I was going to let Lauren, and Craig, ruin my budding relationship with Jayden.
The bell finally rang, but I was dreading the next class. Natalya and I had gym, but Jayden was off to Film Analysis. I would have to be without him for an hour.
Jayden, Natalya and I exited the Algebra room, and Jayden kissed me good-bye before turning and going down the hall in the opposite direction.
I sighed as Natalya and I began to walk to gym. “Oh my gosh, Brie, I promise you’ll survive,” she declared.
“I know,” I chuckled. “But he’s my first boyfriend.”
“And he’ll still be your first boyfriend in an hour when you see him at lunch,” Natalya clarified.
“Again, Nat, I know,” I was laughing.
“But, Brie, I’m so glad to see you happy like this. Plus, Jayden is really cute!” Natalya opened the locker room door and walked in. I followed.
“He’s perfect. I just hope Lauren doesn’t do anything to ruin it for me. And Craig, his eyes had this weird look in them when he saw me. Lauren is convinced that Jayden will be hers in no time.”
“Don’t worry, Brie, he wouldn’t do that to you. I saw the way he looked at you, he’s not going to let them come between you two,” she comforted.
“I guess you’re right, Nat. Now I just need to know what that look in Craig’s eyes meant and what he’ll do. I mean, it could have been an innocent glance, but I’m not so sue. I can stop Lauren, for crying out loud, starting tomorrow after school, I live with her for two weeks. Nothing will get past me.”
Together Natalya and I changed into our gym clothes and entered the gym. Coach Riley had the basketball hoops pulled down, and rows of basketballs for us to grab. He told us we would be playing one-on-one as a warm up to our basketball unit.
Naturally, Natalya and I were partners, and for once I won. I was shocked.
“How did you get so good at basketball?” Natalya asked.
“I don’t know. I’m just…” I paused.
“Ecstatic?” she finished.
“Yea!”
We giggled and played some more. The bell rang, and we hurried to get dressed and meet Daniel and Jayden in the cafeteria. Daniel and Natalya thought it would be cute to have just the four of us sit together today. I think it’s just so that they can interrogate Jayden but still look good at the same time.
Once I was dressed, I fixed my make-up and put on some lip gloss. Natalya did the same. When we were finished, we left the locker room and headed to the cafeteria. My smiled didn’t leave my face once.
When we entered the cafeteria, Jayden was standing there waiting for me. I look at him confused and asked, “Where’s Daniel? I thought the four of us were sitting together today.”
“I asked him if they could interrogate me tomorrow. There’s something I need to tell you. It’s my turn to tell the story,” he answered me.
My stomach churned, and I became nervous. “Okay. Is everything alright?”
Jayden sensed my worries and cleared them away with a deep, full kiss. His kiss again left me breathless, and he leaned down to whisper, “Everything’s perfect. I have you.”
I smiled and let him grab my hand and lead me to a quiet deserted corner table of the loud cafeteria. We sat down next to each other, and Jayden took a deep breath.
