Collections of Salt

A mother's tears are never lonely
for they mingle with the ones from previous cries
and they never grow weary for the fall.

Those tears fall from weakness
unmatched by devotion and unconditional love
they come in endless supplies.

Each set is for another occasion
and the occasions come more frequently these days
another collection of salt...

unnoticed.

    Sad

And beautiful. This is a very touching poem and it speaks to the ancient circle of life. Children are nourished with tears and love and all the things we give them.

    A beautiful and emotional write.

I have "collected salt" many times. I keep it in my alabaster box. I try at best not to shed the same tears again and again but as a mother, try as I might, I sometimes repeat.

Your poem sears the heart and pulls at the ashes that crumble a mother's soul when a child hurts or she is hurt by a child. I often wonder about the pain I must have caused my mother. Hm... I tend to think, we get what we give, and sometimes even that is unbalanced in measures of love.

    Exquisite work dear Sister!

    Much Love Always ♥

Excellent, and its summation is all too familiar with what we go through being a parent...thank god our love is unconditional but that does not make it any less painful when we hurt for our kids...or for us..this is beautifully executed and love the title and how it ends....tears for our kids could fill a well...and yes go unnoticed....Its been too long since we talked...I miss you! Stay well my friend, know that you are an excellent mom! and friend...

what a wonderful sentimental wtite. I want to share here one of my favorite writes from Kahlil Gibran from his book called "The Prophet"

    Children:

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children."
    And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
for they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
    Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

    So beautiful..as is your pen,

    Kudos,

    Evan

Good parents give so much to their children and hope they choose happy productive paths. Sometimes they break our hearts. What can you do, you can't live their lives for them. Or your own life through them! They have to go out fight for their own collections of salt. Such profoundly sad and lovely words!

Feeling sad that your child is growing up? This was great... I love the whole "collection of salt" theme. I love reading your motherhood poetry... Gives me a bit of the "other side" of the story. I love it!

and a parent understands your words so deeply and profoundly. I know you are crying for your children.....as parents we always do for one reason or another. May those tears of sorrow mingle with those of joy though...so they may create waters for our children to swim through....and may the salt be that what keeps them from sinking. A beautiful write......

I could only imagine. Children seem to be a sense of pride and torture with everything in between.

And then some parents, ughm... I won't even get into.

Quite emotional stuff and gives us no-kidders a great personal view on why being a parent hurts.
