Headache running rampant through
The mist of words on the pages,
I'm slaving over this research paper.
It should have been done a long time ago.
And yet I waited.
Dearest Carl Sandburg, today is your birthday.
But it is I who is receiving the gift
Of a research paper written of you
Which happens to be due tomorrow.
What a coincidence.
And while skimming through this pile of biographies
Titled with your name,
I had the urge to write a poem.
After all, inspiration is contagious
When you're a poet who is writing about a poet.
Thank you.

...I had just mentioned Carl Sandburg in a comment I left on someone else's poem and I saw your poem in the "featured" column. I just had to check this out!
