Puppy Dog Tales

I’m a little pup,
it can’t be right.
That every  little thing I see,
I have to bite.

Books in the bookcase,
carpets on the stairs.
I even have a go at,
the legs of the chairs.
When anybody calls me,

I run away and hide.
and when they want me indoors,
I just end up outside.
I like to chase cats,

But when  I catch them up.
I don’t know  what to do,
cause I’m just a little pup.
Sometimes I have an accident,

I know I’ve had a few.
when I miss the paper,
When doing my wee or poo.
I don’t do it on purpose,

and I know it makes you mad.
Sometimes I hit the target,
one out of three’s not bad.
When you take me to the park,

I do my best to find.
all the muddy puddles,
The rain has left behind.
and when you’ve used the towel,

To wipe me nice and dry.
I sit back in the puddle,
and wonder why you cry.
I like to pick up screws and nails,

and just won’t spit them out.
When all else fails, 
I know the vets are open
late at night.

So if you decide to buy a pup,
this much I know is true.
We pups put up with a lot,
from the likes of folks like you.

    Sweet. Just a treat to read. I love my little seventeen year old pup. I just got back from a walk with her and she was as frisky as a pup when she met the neighbors great Pyrenees. It's hard to believe a little cocker can have to much spunk, guess they stay pups all their lives.

    Yes you truly have captured puppy life in this write. I can see why this work has won quite a bit of trophies. I like the bouncy flow of your poem it has such a cute rhyme to it. Makes me wanna go and get myself a little puppy to be honest very nice write good luck in my contest!

    this sounds so much like the life of a puppy. When they are teething, they just have to chew on something. With our dog Lady, it was the cushions of our patio furniture. No matter how many toys she had, she always chose to tear and rip at those cushions. She's getting old now and sleeps ... dreaming I'm sure of ripping and tearing! Nice write, and thank you for entering.

    Adorable, and describes the typical antics of a young pup who doesn't really know what to do with itself - but tries to do everything, resulting in driving the owner to the point of madness sometimes.

    I remember my own Bichon when he was a youngling, used to chew on the wooden legs of the stools too! Rascal!

    You really caught hte personality of a puppy in this - made for very enjoyable reading - thanks for entering!

    LOL This made me laugh too hard. Man, my cat Hobbes acts just like that pup. Especially the part of the poem talking about having accidents. We have had to take him to the Vet plenty too due to him eating plastic and strings. LOL Enjoyed the read! Thank you for entering my contest.

    This is a funny poem which made me laugh. It made me remember a friend who got a cute Labrador puppy but he chewed everything is sight, including the furniture and had many little accidents before his first few months were out, which often brought her to tears. He may have been a little big of a rogue as he took quite a lot more training than most dogs but the years of joy he brought far outweighed the trouble he caused as a puppy. The rhyme in this poem is good, though there appears to be an extra line in the section below and the rhyme pattern changes from lines a,b,x,b to a,b,a,x,(+ 5th line) A little adjustment could put this right as I think this poem has great appeal. Thanks for your entry.

    awww, did you just get a new puppy?! i really like this, it's heartwarming and funny. my one suggestion would be to reword the last line a bit; it's a bit redundant. "From the likes of folks like you" - you repeat like twice.
