There's an empty shadow
Something looming beside me
Vacantly alive but so lucid
Feeling the bitter dead breath
Lying quietly still, fully motionless
Falling on a thick cold blanket
No warmth underneath it
The chill runs straight to my raw bones
Nothing to satisfy a sleepless mind
Eye’s wide open, aware
Staring dreamlessly at the ceiling
Restless, growing weary
Night after night
Disinclined to be awake,
Cowering the sight of the unmoral
Any wince of a dream turns into irritation
Something once pleasant is now deceptive
Illusions of illuminating tomorrows quickly blacken
Impending shadows slowly retrace their way
Every night, at the sight of twilight
Awaiting for the hint of a flicked light
They come out and prey
On all of the drained, sleepless minds
Taunting imaginations, keeping you awake…
Revolting shadows,
Nightmares at living play
Intimidated by a spark, a growing sign of hope
The unknown stray away…
A light that glows brighter than the moonlight,
Or stars in the sky.
They can’t preside what’s good to us…
Fooling around with our world
Kept secrets of the mind's eyes untold
Turning them into tiny specks of dirt
Lifeless under their transparency
It’s been so long now,
A night lying blissfully asleep
Take control of the dark
Keep a light on for the restless and shattered
Just keep the light on for a while
You’ll dream gently once again,
Taunting shadows wont be at the bedside tonight
Not with the hint of that flaming light
The fire you set,
Your dreams have now come back to life.

This made me think of the nights before I had a computer, and my mind would get working too fast, so I could not sleep. The nights seemed so long back then, but now that I have a computer, at least I don't have to feel alone when I am up all night

I think that the chills ran straight through this raw bones as well when I read this piece. Outstanding job and the best of luck in the contest!
