I used to be a reflection
for something beautiful
A sacred sun, worshipping
a colored sky
Shade in betrayal && regret

You && I like Helen && Paris
We could make gods jealous
of a love well sought after
But my heart danced for you
beating along drum lines
casting tides upon its bitter
aftertaste--
The taste of loss--silence
What were we?

summerless clouds?
Graves upon empty land that
no longer seemed to fill in--
all the reasons why
Why sorrow && reason cease
to exist in lingering love

Alone in my confidentiality
Darling, like a greek god,

Like the sea worships the earth
promising glory, some sort of gift
of comfort
Illusions confronted between
bedsheets && whispered words
Between the ink stains && hollowed
out memory
I remember--when lovers went
beyond words, beyond feelings
Beyond caressed skin and reluctant
words
But my words, meant for you
fall on ashes of silence
Fall upon buried tears
I can't pretend to be strong
you tore apart, the wholeness,
the fulfillment of my soul
like the ending of a weary book
you put me down in the fire,
to burn and remain unfinished
Our words once matched
like song && tune
But now you say we couldn't
help but be more wrong for one another
You left and walked away
all smiles falling upon empty laughter
&& expected me to breathe in--
your afterglow
I stared after you dejectedly--
How can I pretend to be at all when..
you left this feeling here inside me.
