I regret to rejoice in thoughts of
Dante's divine justice,
the inner circles of perfect retribution.
I imagine lustful inhabitants of circle two
the violent, the fraudulent and the traitors
who occcupy the lowest depths of hell
opportunists and outcasts
on the fringes of the Inferno
the gluttonous, avaricious and greedy
wanting them all to feel
a cosmic parity;
to suffer for the pain
they inflicted on the innocent.
Anthropomorphizing the Diety,
making Him the vengeful warrior
feeds my fantasies when I am wronged.
Ultimately, I bequeath Dante
to the fourteenth century,
his terza rima a wonder of literature,
but his vision can not comfort my troubled soul.
